Top 3 Nutrition Tips for Performance.

I will never forget my first visit to the Nutrition Treatment Center in Red Bank New Jersey in 2006. I knew that I needed help with my nutrition-but what I learned from Dr.Tom has made an impact that has lasted 11 years. Since then I have had the great honor of being called Coach by our clients at CKO Kickboxing and The Parisi Speed School. Training and Nutrition go hand in hand. One without the other will prove to be challenging. Here are the top 3 questions that I have been asked over the past 10 years-I hope they help you eat and train your way to a fitter you!
"What should I eat before training?"
Something-but not a bowl or pasta or a burrito. I always recommend that an athlete eat at least 90 minutes prior to training. The worst thing you can do is go hours without eating and then show up for training. It is like driving your car when the gas light comes on-you only have a few miles left. Same with you-fuel is needed for performance. My favorites are an apple, banana, greek yogurt, nuts, a spoon of peanut butter. Stay away from processed food or fast food.

"What should I eat after training?"
A mix of protein and carbs. The easiest way to get protein is in liquid form. Research shows that your body will need to consume protein within 30-45 minutes of training to start the proper recovery process. But carbs are important as well-good carbs. My favorite post workout meal is a Chocolate milk, a hard boiled egg and a cheese stick.

"How often should I eat throughout the day?"
Often! I recommend that our athletes eat every 2 hours, starting with breakfast upon waking up and then every 2 hours until bed. To do this you must plan ahead. Meal prep is a must if you want to eat every 2 hours. Since we all live busy lives it will be very difficult to eat good meals when you are out of your home all day. Trisha and I prep our foods on Sunday or Monday so that we are prepared for the week ahead. Go and buy some solid food containers and start to prep!
I hope that this helps-you can always contact me if you have any questions.

Using technology to increase access to youth mental health support may offer a practical way for young people-to reach guidance, safe-spaces, and early help without feeling overwhelmed by traditional systems. Digital platforms, helplines, and apps could give them a chance to seek support privately, connect with trained listeners-orexplore resources that might ease their emotional load. This gentle shift toward tech-based support may encourage youth to open-up at their own pace, especially when in-person help feels too heavy to approach.
There is always a chance that these tools-quietly make support feel closer than before, creating moments where help appears just a tap away. Even a small digital interaction might bring a sense of comfort. And somewhere in that space, you might…
